Why the Forum
In Nigeria, infertility is still surrounded by deep cultural sensitivity, stigma, and silence. For many individuals and families, the journey to parenthood is not only emotionally demanding but also shaped by social pressure, misunderstanding, and limited public conversation. This makes safe, informed, and compassionate spaces for dialogue especially important.
The Nigeria Assisted Parenthood Forum was created to help meet that need. Founded and convened by Undiga Emuekpere, the Forum serves as an ongoing platform for conversations about assisted parenthood in Nigeria, including surrogacy, donor conception, and adoption. It brings together voices across law, fertility medicine, advocacy, family-building support, and lived experience to encourage greater awareness, stronger collaboration, and more responsible practice.
The Forum also recognises the importance of visible advocates and ambassadors who can help break the silence, widen public understanding, and bring these often private experiences into more informed and constructive conversation. Their role is vital in building trust, reducing stigma, and helping more people feel seen, supported, and represented.
A key part of this work is developing practical resources that can guide both professionals and the public. The Guide, as the Forum’s first publication, is an important milestone: a first-of-its-kind resource designed to support more informed engagement with assisted parenthood in Nigeria. It reflects the Forum’s broader commitment not only to conversation, but also to education, clarity, and lasting impact.

Undiga Emuekpere
Convener, Nigeria Assisted Parenthood Forum UK 2026
Undiga Emuekpere is a Nigerian fertility lawyer, Principal Partner of Ôka’mara Law, and Founding Convener of the Nigeria Assisted Parenthood Forum UK 2026. Her practice focuses on assisted parenthood, international surrogacy, donor conception, adoption, fertility-sector documentation, and cross-border family-building involving Nigeria.
Undiga has a strong academic and professional background, including previous teaching experience in Contract, Tort, and Business Law at the School of Law, University of Essex, UK. She has developed a distinctive practice at the intersection of fertility medicine, family formation, international movement, and the law, advising intending parents, fertility clinics, surrogacy stakeholders, donor-conception parties, agencies, counsellors, and other professionals.
Her international surrogacy experience includes advising or representing intending parents and/or writing legal opinions involving the United Kingdom, France, Ireland, the United States, New Zealand, Australia, and the Netherlands. Her work covers surrogacy arrangements in Nigeria, independent legal advice for surrogates, donor conception, parentage documentation, post-birth documentation, embassy and immigration-facing representations, and cross-border exit planning for surrogate-born and donor-conceived children.
Through Ôka’mara Law, Undiga has become a leading voice on the need for safer, better-informed, and better-documented assisted parenthood journeys in Nigeria. Her work emphasises ethical practice, informed consent, proper documentation, legal clarity, and the protection of all parties involved, including intending parents, surrogates, donors, clinics, and children born through assisted reproduction.
The Nigeria Assisted Parenthood Forum UK 2026 reflects Undiga’s commitment to bridging the information gap between medical possibility, legal reality, and the lived experience of families navigating assisted parenthood across borders. As Convener, she brings together her legal expertise, international case experience, sector knowledge, and commitment to professional education to create a trusted platform where intending parents and professionals can access credible information, ask better questions, and make informed and safe choices.

About the
Guide
The Guide is a first-of-its-kind resource in Nigeria created to support intending parents as they navigate the complex and deeply personal journey of assisted parenthood. Designed with clarity, empathy, and practical value in mind, it brings together essential information to help individuals and families make more informed decisions with confidence.
Structured around the three key pillars of assisted parenthood — surrogacy, donor conception, and adoption — the Guide provides accessible insight into the pathways, considerations, and realities that shape each journey. It is intended to serve as a trusted starting point for those seeking greater understanding in an area that is often surrounded by silence, stigma, and limited public information.
Beyond information, the Guide also includes practical tools and resources for intending parents, including helpful checklists and other supportive materials designed to make the journey easier to navigate. As the first publication of the Nigeria Assisted Parenthood Forum, it reflects the Forum’s wider commitment to education, awareness, and more informed engagement with assisted parenthood in Nigeria.
